DUBAI: A host of Indian IT companies are increasingly looking at the Middle East to tap the unexplored potential with the US market, India's prime software export destination, showing signs of saturation. Indian IT export to the region has seen a huge rise of 68 percent in dollar terms in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2003. Experts say Dubai and India can join hands in the IT sector to jointly bid for a larger share of the booming business process outsourcing (BPO) market, which is estimated to touch $7 trillion by the year 2007. "Cooperation between India and Dubai have been put into a high pedestal," said P.K. Sandell, chairman of India's Electronics and Computer Software Export promotion Council (ESC). "The keyword is cooperation and not competition," Sandell told IANS on the sidelines of a road show for the IndiaSoft 2004, to be held in New Delhi from February 10-12. Over 200 delegates from 40 countries are expected to participate in IndiaSoft 2004. Sandell expects large-scale participation from companies in the Gulf region for the three-day technology summit. Kamal Vachani, regional director of the ESC in the Middle East, said the ESC has identified four regions, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and CIS countries, where the growth of the IT industry would be significant in coming years.
