NEW DELHI: Microsoft Corporation is working towards the beta-one release of its 'futuristic' SQL server product in the Indian sub-continent. Christened 'Yukon', the product is designed to help enterprises address data challenges related to application availability, security and reliability, reports CIOL. "In India about nine of our partners are already working with us to drive applications on Yukon. By the end of January we will be releasing the public beta for the product. However the final release of this product would be sometime in October 2004," Tarun Malik, products marketing manager at Microsoft, was quoted as saying. Developed at Microsoft's Redmond based facility, the product is already being used by five of the company's most valued customers worldwide. "This product will take data warehousing and business intelligence to a new level and will have huge capacity to drive data. As it happens with any other product release, at present two US based customers, two European customers and one Asian customer are using Yukon. We are quite positive about their response and we are sure that the product will drive the market to new heights," he told CIOL. Emphasizing the importance of mid-tier market for business intelligence (BI), Malik said that this market is increasingly becoming significant and Microsoft as a company will be focussing heavily to address this segment. "We already have 20 independent software vendors working towards catering to the mid-tier market segment. We would be increasing this figure as the market expands," he explained. BI as a concept includes software applications, technologies and analytical methodologies that perform data analysis and segments such as telecom, BFSI, retail and manufacturing are all set to drive the growth for BI within the country. "Recently we have implemented a big order towards BI application for a national oil and natural gas company in India. So the market is growing pretty fast and as present we have around seven customers running our BI solutions," Malik was quoted as saying. (Source: CIOL)
