Bangalore: Microsoft releases Windows 7 and Windows server Service Pack 1(SP1) for the manufacturers and announces that the service pack will be available for general customers from February 22. The Windows 7 SP1 includes some minor updates in the Operating System including some already out through Windows Update. The service pack for Windows 7 also includes client-side support for Remote FX and Dynamic Memory for Windows 7 VMs. Although Windows 7 has become Microsoft's fastest-selling Operating System ever, many companies and organizations have been expecting upgrading from Windows XP until the first service pack. Consumers can download the SP1 through Microsoft Download Center and new Windows 7 will come with SP1 preinstalled in it. Companies and businesses have always waited for Microsoft to come out with new up gradations before jumping into something expensive and time consuming. Companies want to see how this new SP1 takes off and then go forward to upgrade their systems using Windows 7. Service packs also will be available to current customers like Volume License customers, Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) and TechNet subscribers on Feb. 16. Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 includes more virtualization capabilities, including Remote FX and Dynamic Memory. Microsoft also announces few updates that targets more to business customers: Windows Thin PC (WinTPC) is upcoming software that ensures benefit, more locked down version of Windows 7 to repurpose an existing PC as a thin client, and Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) will have customers manage and administer BitLocker. The beta is slated for release in March 2011.
