Microsoft India development centre celebrates ninth anniversary

Hyderabad: The Microsoft India Development Centre (MSIDC) here celebrated its ninth anniversary Saturday. As part of the celebrations, MSIDC employees showcased their talent at a cultural programme held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) in Hitec City. MSIDC, which is Microsoft's second largest product development centre outside its headquarters in Redmond, commenced operations in Hyderabad in 1998 with about 20 people under the leadership of Srini Koppolu. "Today its headcount has reached around 1,300 and the centre is working on new products, technologies and features for Microsoft globally," said a company statement. MSIDC is a leader in creating intellectual property from India with teams having end-to-end responsibility on more than 50 Microsoft products, features or technologies shipped for global markets. The centre has filed around 180 patents in the last three years. MSIDC's recent achievements have been with regard to the operating system (OS) Windows Vista. Microsoft, the worldwide leader in software for personal and business computing, has had a presence in India since 1990 and currently has offices in nine cities - Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Nagpur and Ahmedabad.
