Markets close in the red

Mumbai: Indian equities closed in the red Tuesday, with a key index shedding 2.91 percent over its previous close. The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 9,213.4 points, fell 270.45 points or 2.91 percent from its Monday close to end at 9,035 points (provisional). The S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) lost 2.52 percent to close at 2,776.65 points. The BSE midcap index closed 2.31 percent lower, while the BSE smallcap index shed 2.35 percent.
