Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Monday invited semiconductor industry to invest here saying the city would emerge as the semiconductor capital of India. Addressing the vision summit of Indian Semiconductor Association here, he announced that the work on $3 billion Fab City, India's first semiconductor fabrication facility, had begun on the city's outskirts. He said the project, which was approved by board of approval on special economic zones (SEZs) for authorised operations two days ago, was also accorded environmental clearance last week. With the industry waiting for the details of semiconductor policy in principle approved by the union cabinet last month, Rajasekhara Reddy said the same would be announced in a week or two. The chief minister said the city with world-class infrastructure and talent pool was the best place for the growth of semiconductor industry. He assured the industry that his government would not allow the city to be clogged and pointed out that the international airport would be ready next year while work on 160 km outer ring road had already started. He said the state would have 7,000 MW additional electricity in two to three years. "Hyderabad has access to clean water which no other Indian city has," he said. The chief minister also referred to the steps being taken to bring water from Godavari river. Indian Semiconductor Industry president Poornima Shenoy said 300 delegates from eight countries were attending the two-day summit. The Indian semiconductor industry, which witnessed 29.8 percent growth with a turnover of $3.2 billion in 2005, is expected to grow to $43 billion by 2015.
