CHENNAI: Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Ltd., an arm of automobile major Mahindra and Mahindra, has decided to unveil a chain of new resorts in popular tourist destinations in India and overseas. "We will be opening more resorts both in India and abroad soon," Ramesh Ramanathan, the newly appointed managing director of Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Limited, told mediapersons. The company currently operates 10 resorts in India and one in Bangkok. "I always take Singapore's Jurong Bird Park as a classic example of effective tourism. Six million visitors go to see this 100-acre park every year," said Ramanathan. Although the official refused to disclose locations where the new resorts would come up, he hinted that the company might foray into several south Asian destinations. In India, the company has resorts in Munnar, Udhagamandalam (Ooty), Goa, Manali and Mussoorie. In March 2004, 22,500 members of Club Mahindra used resorts and tie-up arrangements for regular holidays. "We are growing by 25 to 30 percent, in terms of both revenue and membership. This year we will maintain the same rate of growth," Ramanathan said. "About 40 percent of the new members of Mahindra Holidays are brought in by existing members. Only if the clients get a memorable experience will they recommend the product to others." Ramanathan claimed last year Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India earned 1 billion in revenues.
