Bhopal: A Madhya Pradesh university has signed a memorandum of understanding with University of Houston in the US to start a dual degree course and interaction between their faculties, officials said on Friday. The Rajiv Gandhi Praudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), better known as Rajiv Gandhi Technical University, and Houston University signed the MoU for the Dual Degree Course Thursday, official sources said. The MoU will entail interaction between the faculties of the US university and RGPV on project-based requirement and also for establishment of various models of academic cooperation that would initially include dual degree programmes. The MoU would enable both the universities to undertake joint educational programmes in the fields of energy, environment, engineering, construction and maintenance engineering, nano-science and technology and other fields. "It will allow exchange of teachers and students between both the institutions, besides starting a Dual Degree Course under which both the universities would provide degrees to students," said RGPV vice-chancellor P.B. Sharma. "A graduate of RGPV would, when studying the PG course, get the PG and Doctorate Degree from both the universities. He would also be allowed to go to Houston University to study in the second year of the postgraduate course. The programme would be completed through distance education and by studying at Houston University," he said. Earlier, a team of academicians from the University of Houston led by Larry Witte visited the Madhya Pradesh University Thursday. "Witte said that the delegates were impressed with the development and research undertaken in leading edge technologies here. We are looking forward to a better tie-up between RGPV and Houston," Sharma said. "The collaboration will enhance our capabilities significantly," said Witte, after the signing the MoU.
