MT firms form body to set up standards

BANGALORE: Leading Medical Transcription companies in Karnataka have come together and announced the formation of the Indian Medical Transcription Industry Association (IMTIA). Armed with the leaders of local medical transcription (MT) companies, IMTIA plans to set up standards in the industry. Sharing best practices in medical transcription, HR, training initiatives and career path for Medical Transcriptionists will be a part of their charter. IMTIA will focus on ensuring Data protection, Security and Privacy of confidential information, and position itself as an association rendering service to the healthcare industry which is continuously increasing its spend on outsourcing. Suresh Nair CEO and Managing Director of HealthScribe India and President of the association said, “ The formation of IMTIA is a unique achievement as it brings together for the first time; all the leading MT companies for a common cause - The MT industry is poised to grow at a dramatic pace and in order to ensure that this pace is harnessed and a solid base created, there is a need to provide a common platform when interfacing with government and other institutions, IMTIA will play an important role in shaping related policies and standards.” IMTIA, with the domain knowledge at its disposal, will move up the value chain to render services such as Electronic Medical Records, Medical Coding and Billing services, Document Imaging, Data Warehousing, and high end services like Radiology, etc. The Healthcare BPO Industry currently provides greater flexibility in the work place and gives employees the option of working from home hence providing opportunities to a wider cross section of age groups. IMTIA, through its task force will ensure that member companies practice the best principles of HR management and collaborate to provide training programs that would meet the current and future requirement of the Industry. IMTIA has been registered and headquartered in Bangalore and will work towards ensuring member companies adherence to the practices of HIPAA so as to keep the US healthcare information safe and secure. IMTIA will function as an autonomous body.
