MD of firm that sold sub-standard silicon BHEL held

Dehradun: The CBI has arrested the Managing Director of a Haridwar-based firm for supplying sub-standard silicon to Bharat Heavy Electricals(BHEL) for Rs 1.16 crore, CBI sources said today. Shravan Kumar Gupta, the MD of Haridwar-based Asian Ferro Alloys Limited, was arrested yesterday. According to sources, Gupta's company was awarded the contract for providing silicon to BHEL in 2009. The company supplied silicon to BHEL and was paid Rs 1.16 cr. Later, it was found out that the company provided sub-standard silicon to BHEL, following which a complaint was lodged and the CBI launched an investigation.
