London mayor to visit Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: London Mayor Alderman Gavyn Arthur begins a two-day visit here Thursday to strengthen business ties between the two cities. Lady Mayoress Carole Blackshaw will accompany him and participate in various programmes on Friday. The mayor will arrive here Thursday evening and attend a reception being hosted by British Deputy High Commissioner to Southern India Stuart Innes. The next day he will call on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and Commissioner of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Chitra Ramchandran. Accompanied by Innes and John Cooke, head of International Relations, Association of British Insurers, he will call on chairman of Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority C.S. Rao. The mayor will address InvestUK, which is being hosted by the British Deputy High Commission to encourage Indian firms to invest in Britain. Arthur is visiting New Delhi and Mumbai. According to a statement issued from the British Deputy High Commission, Blackshaw will gift play equipment to the children of a primary school in Quthbullapur in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district. The school is part of the British Department for International Development's AP Urban Services for the Poor (APUSP) project.
