Bangalore: Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) launches its new Liquid technology which promises to ease telecom network jamming and perhaps change the market for such equipment for good. After Ericsson, the world's second best mobile gear maker shares network resources across mobile and broadband networks parallel to cloud computing. Phil Twist, head of marketing at NSN's Network Systems unit, said in an interview, "For operators it offers a better use of capital. You invest in total network load, not in peak levels." The struggle faced by all the telecom operators around the world is under pressure due to scarcity of network capacity as the use of video on smartphones and tablets proliferates. The shortage is generally faced during rush hours at specific locations. With crowded network at city centers and scarce use of base stations in suburbs during day time, operators have to buy new base stations for the centers to cope with the growth Up to 80 percent of base stations' processing capacity and up to half of core networks' capacity is unused according to Nokia Siemens. The computing power unit, one of the two key units of traditional station, from the base station is removed by 50-50 venture of Nokia and Siemens. The network shares computing power between all stations. It is the foremost chief march in the direction of using average servers by telecom equipment makers which have been traditionally able to carry tough margins from out-and-out equipment. The new network software provides most of the mandatory features, dipping the need for enthusiastic equipment. The market leader Ericsson, Chinese players Huawei and ZTE could feel the risk having stormed the market with cheap and strong dedicated hardware offerings. NSN and Alcatel-Lucent in recent years is under great pressure from Ericsson and Chinese firms, still they struggled to make a profit and have been forced to try to find the next breakthrough technology ahead of the others. The deliveries of Nokia Siemens' Liquid products have already started. A comparable, stripped down future base station is unveiled by Alcatel-Lucent but it is scheduled to start first deliveries only next year.
