Lalu calls for more freight trains between India, Pakistan

New Delhi: Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Thursday agreed on the need to increase the number of freight trains between India and Pakistan. After meeting a delegation from Pakistan, the minister said in view of the increased trade between the two countries, especially of cement, there is need for more number of freight trains between the two countries. He also emphasized the need to open up the Munabao-Khokhrapar route between India and Pakistant. The six-member Pakistani delegation led by Shafiq Ullah, director (operations) in Pakistan's railway ministry, is visiting India in connection with the Inter Governmental Railway meeting between the two countries June 17-19. The delegation Thursday called on the Indian railways minister. The High Commissioner of Pakistan Shahid Malik was also present on the occasion. Earlier, the two sides concluded discussions on several issues in respect of running of both freight and passenger services between the countries at Wagah and Attari border posts. The nine-member Indian delegation was led by R.N.Verma, additional member (traffic) in the railways ministry.
