Mumbai: India's largest engineering and construction firm Larsen & Tourbo (L&T) said it had bagged two major contracts worth $86 million from China's leading petrochemical company Sinopec, edging out Japanese and German competition. L&T has been contracted by the Chinese firm to design, manufacture and supply of three ethylene oxide reactors, each weighing over 1,000 tonnes. The reactors will form part of the methyl ethyl glycol (MEG) unit in the petrochemical plant, the company said in a statement. With the two new contracts, L&T's China order book has risen to $300 million. "L&T has supplied to China equipment valued over US$300 million, including the world's largest coal gasifier, and advanced acronitrile reactors," it said. L&T is among the few companies in the world, which has been approved by the Chinese Heavy Industry Ministry to Structured Query Language (SQL) certification for supply of critical equipment. L&T has recently set up a factory for the manufacture of switchgear in Wuxi, Jiangsu province and another factory at Yangcheng, in the same province for the manufacture valves. It would soon have manufacturing facilities for rubber processing machinery in Jionan, Qingdao province, the company said.
