Mumbai: L&T Infotech, a unit of India's engineering firm Larsen and Toubro (L&T), is the lowest bidder for an IT applications contract for a state-run power utility in Maharashtra, reports Reuters. "L&T Infotech is the L1 for IT work for 130 towns," said a source on condition of anonymity. The contract could be worth up to 3.77 billion ($81 million), depending on federal government approval for the number of towns to be covered under the scheme, the source added. However, L&T Infotech could not be reached for comment. As reported by Reuters, several Indian and overseas IT firms are vying for contracts under the government-backed scheme to identify distribution losses in state-run utilities, which can range between 30-50 percent of the total power produced.
