Kochi Startup Village to Launch a Centre in US

Startup Village, which aims to incubate around 1,000 product startups over next 10 years, will also send student entrepreneurs to the US as part of a learning exercise. Recently, the Kerala government introduced a policy to give grace marks for entrepreneurial students for their projects. They will also be allowed to miss up to 20 per cent of classes, to pursue their projects. “With the government’s new initiative to promote student entrepreneurial projects, we are seeing a lot more students taking this role,” added Vijayakumar.

To support entrepreneurship, Kerala is forming a network called Mallu Angel Network. “Mallu Angel Network will be a not for profit body like the Mumbai Angel Network. We are going to leverage the advantage of having wealthy and successful Kerala-born entrepreneurs to foster start-up growth,” said Shaffi Mather, chief economic advisor to the Kerala Chief Minister. The network aims to foster over 1000 new entrepreneurs and businessmen from the southern state over the span of a decade. These young minds will be mentored by experts from our country and abroad.

There is no denying that India has tremendous talent and young entrepreneurs from our country are showcasing their potential to the world every day, yet it is hard for them to grow in our market due to a lot of factors like political interference, lack of funding and social stereotype. However, these evils are slowly being overcome by initiatives like these which give more hope to the youth of our country and encourage them to take their innovative ideas and put them to good use.
