Knowledge services to generate 40 M jobs

BANGALORE:IndiaÂ’s emergence as a knowledge services hub, with 40 million new jobs in the sector, is expected to generate a $200 billion market by 2020. According to a report on the global demographic projections for supply and distribution of workforce, prepared by Boston Consultancy Group (BCG), India would be part of a group of emerging markets, which would boast of surplus working population. WhatÂ’s more, India would account for the biggest chunk of surplus labor in the world in 15 years. China, the only other country that has a big population, is expected to suffer a deficit of about 10 million workers. In contrast, India would have a surplus of about 47 million workers. The presentation by BCG chief Arun Maira also talked about the specific industries that will roll out the employment dish. Apart from IT, pharma and healthcare sectors, education services, auto, engineering, chemicals and financial services will also offer new job opportunities. In the IT sector, the focus will be on transaction processing, design & analysis, research & development. In the pharma & healthcare sector, transaction processing, design & analysis, R&D and value-added tourism will provide new job opportunities.
