THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Softex Group, an IT solutions firm located in the sprawling Technopark campus here, Tuesday said it has tied up with a British firm to unveil a computer with in-built wireless in local loop telephone facility. The WiFi computer, which will hit the Indian market with a comparatively lower price tag of 10,000 within one year, will be jointly developed and marketed by the Softex Group and Britain's Anglo Digital Company. The Softex Group will assemble the computer here after importing hardware, said R. P. Lalaji, chief executive officer of the Softex Group. "This is going to revolutionise the usage of the computer and anyone who has this system could also cut down on telephone bills and be upwardly mobile," Lalaji told a press conference here. The company is also planning to launch a E-marketing Intelligence Research Unit (eMIRU) at its facility. "We have already done a pilot project and soon are going to get major orders from multinational companies who are now changing their marketing strategies by using the e-mail and instant messaging," said Lalaji. According to the company, eMIRU business in the coming years is expected to grow to $15 million. The products that are likely to marketed using the technique will include items like handicrafts and designer dresses.
