THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two more British firms are setting up shop in the sprawling Technopark complex here, close on the heels of four leading companies from that country. Alamy Limited and Linkair Travels are opening up call centres at the IT hub for their back office operations. A Technopark source told IANS that Alamy chief and co-founder James West was here last month to finalise the agreement. "They have leased 12,000 square feet of space and are expected to open in a matter of two months," said the source. "Linkair Travels, to start with, has taken up 1,000 sq ft of space and is basically starting a call centre to handle their travel operations." Former Technopark CEO Rajiv Vasudevan said: "Four Britain-based companies are already operating, and naturally the new ones are arriving because the existing ones are happy. "That is how an IT park will grow," said Vasudevan, who was largely instrumental in drawing two of the British firms already functioning here. The British companies in Technopark today employ close to 500 people. Set up in 1996, the Technopark houses close to 55 software companies and includes prestigious firms like Infosys, IBS Software Services, NeST, Toonz Animation and US Software. The total staff strength in all the companies at the IT park has crossed the 5,000 mark.
