JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government has eased procedures to promote industrial investment in the state. Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed announced Monday a single window system of clearances had been put in place. Sonali Kumar, commissioner of industries and commerce, would be the focal point for receiving, processing and clearing investment proposals from entrepreneurs from outside the state. To promote tourism and facilitate tourism related investment in the state, the chief minister named tourism secretary Najmus Saqib as the focal point for clearing projects and proposals. A separate package is being worked out to attract the film industry to the state by removing the cumbersome procedures that had become major irritants for visiting film units. "The entrepreneurs can now contact these officials," an official spokesman said. Hitherto, there was a multiplicity of authorities for processing and clearing proposals. Under the new system, proposals will be processed at a senior level. The officer who receives a proposal will be responsible for seeking quick clearances from different agencies, the spokesman said. During the chief minister's meetings with entrepreneurs organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the industrialists had termed the state's procedures for clearances as a frustrating exercise. Sayeed had assured them the procedures would be simplified.
