NEW DELHI:President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam today said $150 billion was needed for improbving infrastructure and aviation in the country. "Our economy requires at least up to $150 billion worth of investment in the infrastructure sector over the next decade to catch up with our East Asian neighbours," the president said in his address to the joint session of parliament on the first day of the budget session. Civil aviation, he pointed out, was one of the areas that had an urgent requirement for investments. "The ad hocism and lack of transparency that characterised civil aviation policy in the past has been replaced by a transparent, forward-looking policy framework that will encourage new investment in this sector," Kalam noted.
