SUNNYVALE: Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR) Wednesday announced that HiNet, Taiwan's leading Internet Service Provider (ISP), has selected Juniper Networks M-series platforms for the expansion of its high-speed backbone network. HiNet is the ISP unit of Chunghwa Telecom's (CHT's) Data Communication Business Group and is one of the world's largest broadband providers with more than 1,600,000 ADSL subscribers. HiNet's selection of the M-series is an endorsement of the Model for Integrated Network Transformation (MINT). The MINT offers a revolutionary approach to bringing significant new revenues into the telecommunications industry without forcing providers to undertake costly network overhauls. Critical to the approach advocated by MINT is the separation of network facilities from the creation of services. Under the MINT framework, providers establish a service-independent resource pool capable of supporting a rich range of large- and small-scale services. Combined with previously deployed E-series platforms at the network edge, the M-series will give HiNet a single, service-independent network that can qualitatively and cost-effectively support both the mass market of users, as well as smaller micro-markets. "An integrated carrier-class routing platform will enhance our service offerings that currently include video conferencing and premium broadband services, and, in the future, various kinds of MPLS-based applications," said Yen-Sung Lee, president of CHT's Data Communication Business Group. "We selected Juniper Networks because the M- and E-series meet our business and technical requirements, and the capability to scale fits anticipated customer demands." "The E-series platforms have been deployed and generating service revenue in HiNet's network for more than a year," said Eric Yu, director of Taiwan and Hong Kong, Juniper Networks. "The addition of the M-series routers reinforces our commitment to providing superior edge to core solutions to customers for enhancing standard access with revenue generating services."
