Ranchi: The Jharkhand government has invited suggestions from industry before framing a policy to rehabilitate and resettle those people whose land is acquired for industrial projects. The industries department Tuesday sent letters to industrialists and industrial associations, asking them to submit their suggestions by March 25. "We want to announce the R&R (rehabilitation and resettlement) policy as soon as possible to help investors set up industries in the state," said Sudhir Mahto, deputy chief minister and in charge of industries department. The state government has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with 64 companies in steel, mining, power and in other sectors. The major companies with which MoUs were signed are Arcelor Mittal, Tata Steel, Jindal Steel, the Essar group and others. "The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is serious about translating the MoUs into reality," Mahto said. The draft R&R policy includes giving share to the displaced people in the industries "to give a sense of security to the displaced". "This will also help in speedy land acquisition in the state," said an official.
