Jet, Sahara all set to spread their wings abroad

NEW DELHI: India's private airlines are ready to start international operations for the first time, with both Jet Airways and Sahara expressing readiness to begin flights to Sri Lanka. The largest private domestic airline, Jet Airways, Friday said it was operationally equipped and had the infrastructure to undertake international operations. "Subject to approvals from the central government, Jet Airways flights will connect the major metros in India with Sri Lanka," an airline spokesperson said, while commending New Delhi's announcement to open the skies and allow private airlines to fly abroad. Earlier, Air Sahara announced that it would begin daily operations from key Indian metropolises to the Sri Lankan capital Colombo within a week. The airline plans to start daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Colombo. Sahara would also offer special packages for flights between Sri Lanka - home to a large Buddhist population - and Buddhist destinations in India such as Sarnath, Bodhgaya and Kushinagar.
