MUMBAI: Jerry Rao, chairman and chief executive officer of mid-size Indian IT firm Mphasis BFL, was Wednesday appointed chairman of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) for 2004-05. S. Ramadorai, chief executive officer of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest software company, has been appointed vice chairman of Nasscom for the current year, said a Nasscom press statement. "My endeavour will be to establish India as a high-quality, secure, reliable software powerhouse and centre for best practices in the BPO (business process outsourcing) industry," said Rao. "We will continue to build on the global trade development programme and pro-actively engage with think tanks, policymakers and academicians." Rao said the Indian IT industry would have to adopt a focused approach, especially on issues like security and quality. Nasscom is India's premier IT industry lobby group with around 850 members, of which nearly 150 are global companies from the US, Britain, the European Union, Japan and China.
