KOLKATA: Japan has shown interest in developing a new port near the Bay of Bengal being set up by Kolkata Port Trust, Mitsui Corp and Japan International Cooperation agency. The Japan International Cooperation agency will carry out a feasibility study and will submit its report within a month. Kolkata Port Trust badly wants the port to come up fast as it is facing competition from other Indian ports who are taking away all the traffic due to poor facilities at the Kolkata and Haldia ports.
