Jaisalmer, popularly known as the ‘Golden City of India’, is located in the state of Rajasthan. The architecture of the city is made by using yellow sand and yellow sandstone, giving the city a yellowish-golden shade, making it the Golden city of India.

Jailsalmer, which means "the Hill Fort of Jaisal” got its name from its founder, Maharawal Jaisal Singh, a Rajput King, who lived in the 1156 AD.

Some of the tourist attractions of Jaisalmer are-

Jaisalmer Fort- The fort built in the 12th Century is one of the most magnificent and largest forts in the world. It is built over the Trikuta hill, with a height of 250 feet. Raj Mahal (Royal palace), Jain Temples and the Laxminath temple are the prime fascinations inside the fort.

Havelis-The old mansions of the city, commonly known as Havelis, were built hundreds of years ago. Some havelis have been converted into museums, but some are still used by the families who built them. Patwon-ki-Haveli, Salim-Singh-ki-Haveli and Nathmalji ki Haveli are some of the famous Havelis in Jaisalmer.

Desert National Park - The Desert National Park is a protected Sanctuary and the largest national park in Rajasthan. The place attracts migratory birds such as the Great Indian Bustard, Harriers, Buzzards, Kestrel and Spotted eagles. Sand Dunes cover a significant portion of Desert national park.

Tazia Tower: Tazia tower, situated in the ‘Badal Palace’ Complex, is a 5 -storied structure, which was built by Muslim craftsmen. The tower was erected in the year of 1886 AD and the decorated balconies of the tower add to its beauty.

Gadsisar Sagar Tank, Bara Bagh and Sam Sand Dunes are the other major attractions of Jaisalmer. Desert Festival conducted in the months of January and February every year is a must see celebration which includes cultural events, camel races, turban tying competition, etc.

October to March is the best time to visit Jaisalmer. Jodhpur is the nearest airport and Jailsalmer railway station is connected to Jodhpur and other cities in India.
