JNTU to offer Microsoft software free to its students

Hyderabad: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad, has entered into an agreement with Microsoft India to offer the Microsoft DreamSpark program, a free software, to its students. Under this initiative, over 300,000 students from 380 affiliated engineering colleges in the State, would get access to the latest Microsoft developer and designer tools free-of-cost. "In today's highly competitive world, it is imperative for students to be well versed with the latest tools and technologies. The Microsoft DreamSpark program will provide our students with the latest IT tools and software, preparing them for competition and future professions," said Prof. D. N. Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, JNTU. Students of Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering and Design would be offered free academic software licensing. Pratima Amonkar, Director (Academia), Developer Platform Evangelism (DPE), Microsoft India, said, "Our endeavour is to empower our new age leaders with technology, and the capability to utilize it. Microsoft DreamSpark provides professional-level tools to students with an aim to encourage them to explore the power of technology and to improve lives." The DreamSpark initiative is designed to join the dots between software access, which means making training and complement simple access to technology.
