BANGALORE: Digital videos of motion picture quality on portable players will become available from September this year through collaboration between Bangalore-based Ittiam Systems and California-based DivXNetworks. Ittiam, a digital signal processing firm set up by former Texas Instruments officials, and DivXNetworks already have a customer in Asia Pacific for the entire range of portable video players, DVD players, digital still and video cameras. "The digital camcorder is already being tested here. The quality that was restrained to only DivX, a PC-based technology, would now be available on handheld devices. That is what we have done in this partnership," Srini Rajan, chairman and CEO of Ittiam Systems, told reporters here Thursday. "Ittiam's proven expertise in creating high performance, cutting edge digital video solutions for digital signal processing systems makes them an excellent partner to help DivXNetworks meet the global demand for certified consumer electronic devices," Shahi Ghanem, president and COO of DivXNetworks, said in a statement. The two-year-old Ittiam Systems already has a dozen customers in the semi-conductor space and 16 original equipment makers (OEM) from among the Fortune 100 companies abroad. "The DSP (digital signal processing) market in India is very large but not for technologies. There are no OEMs building those products. All our customers are abroad," Rajan added.
