BANGALORE: Milipitas, CA-based Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ:ISIL) has announced the setting up of a product design center in Bangalore, India. Though Intersil officials declined to disclose the total investments committed for India, they said that the new design facility in Bangalore would represent a multi-million dollar investment over the next several years. Intersil designs and manufactures high performance analog solutions. With over 1700 employees, the company develops analog products at its six design centers in the U.S and one in U.K. The Bangalore Center, which is the second design center outside of the U.S, will focus initially on design of high-speed data converters. C S Balasubramanian (Bala) who until recently served in Insilica has been named managing director of the new Intersil Analog Services (IAS) design facility. He intends to recruit 15 engineers by year end with additional team being added every year. "Intersil’s newest design center will be in operation in early June and our work of creating innovative new high-speed data converters and associated high performance analog products will be even more thrilling and rewarding," said Bala who did acknowledge that the siliconindia Career Event in California helped the company to tap of engineers who were relocating to India. "The access to high quality analog design talent with targeted expertise as well as proximity to our Asian customer base are key reasons for establishing a center in Bangalore. The high caliber of the engineers responding to our recruiting efforts has been outstanding," said Micheal Althar, vice president of Standard Analog Products at Intersil. "Once Bala has formed his IAS team in Bangalore and they have become familiar with Intersil products and processes, we will expand their design activities into other analog categories including amplifiers, high-speed interface and high-speed analog-to-digital converters for various target markets Intersil addresses."
