Internet inventor Berners-Lee wants web access for all
London: Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the internet has urged that everyone across the world should have access to the web for free. He opined that everybody can be given a low-bandwidth internet connection without having to pay for it. Berners-Lee's recommendation of free internet access is motivated by his belief that the web can give people access to critical services such as healthcare. At present only one-fifth of the world's population is connected to net, which is a very small percentage. The internet founder wants people to be at least enrolled in a cheap data plan and said the increase in mobile networks gives an opportunity to connect with everyone. He added that currently the connections are expensive and are taxed by the governments too. Berners-Lee proposed that network providers could offer the free connections on the basis that people would become more affluent in the future and would then be willing to pay for more expensive, higher-bandwidth mobile services. With the world becoming as small as to be called a global village, it is time that Berners-Lee's wish comes true for people to be connected to each other at all points of time.
