Interim budget earmarks 10 Billion for 2010 Commonwealth Games

New Delhi: An amount of 10 billion has been earmarked in the interim budget for building infrastructure for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, an official statement said here Monday. "The Delhi government has been allocated an amount of 24.18 billion in the union interim budget 2009-10 presented Monday in parliament by acting Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee," the statement said. "An amount of 10 billion has been earmarked for Commonwealth Games infrastructure whereas an amount of 10.45 billion has been allocated for Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) schemes," it said. Delhi Finance and Planning Minister A.K. Walia, reacting to the interim budget proposals, stressed upon the need for immediate approval of various JNNURM schemes related to Delhi. "The amount could be transferred to the commonwealth games head in case the JNNURM schemes are not approved by the union government," Walia said.
