Intel to launch open source-based teachers' training programme

Bangalore: The silicon innovation leader Intel has announced the Intel Teach's collaboration with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Karnataka to launch an open source-based teacher training programme for primary schools in the state. The company also announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SSA Karnataka to train 1,000 Block Resource Teacher Educators in the state as master trainers, reported Business Standard. The master trainers, in turn, will train close to 10,000 teachers from computerized primary schools within the state. The teacher training curriculum, based on open source, includes the use of technology in the teaching process to promote 21st century learning skills. As part of its ?Empowering Lives? campaign, Intel India felicitated schools, principals, students, NGOs and other government organizations who have excelled in integrating technology in learning. Intel India in association with the Department of State Education Research, Government of Karnataka, also honored teachers trained in the state through the Intel Teach programme, a worldwide programme to improve teaching and learning through integration of computer technology in classroom curricula. ?The ?Empowering Lives? campaign is aimed at encouraging activities that help drive progress for the citizens of the country through partnerships with various government and private bodies,? said Rahul Bedi, Director, Corporate Affairs, Intel South Asia and India Business Operations Manager. According to M N Baig, Director, DSERT, ?The programme has helped promote technology supported project based learning among students of Karnataka.? In Karnataka, under the Intel Teach programme over 19,000 teachers have been trained on the use of technology in education.
