Chennai: Intel Corporation has launched two high-end microprocessors on Tuesday. The company claims that the new offerings would "usher in a new era in computing". The microprocessors - Quad-Core Intel Xenon and Intel Core 2 Extreme - would provide more room for virtualisation than any other two-processor server platform, the company said. The Xenon processor would cost about $1172 and could be used by clients for data management, gaming and audio-visual editing technologies while Intel Core 2 Extreme, quad core processor, a technology first, to cost around $999, would be focused on desktop use. Ramamurthy Sivakumar, Country Manager, Intel India, said, "This year has been has been the leap year for the company with at least six new processor products coming out in the past 10 months. The company is looking at India as a manufacturing hub for a long time but we are waiting for the right ecology." "The types of innovation involved in the new technology take decades to perfect," he added.
