MYSORE: Infosys’ chairman and chief mentor, N. R. Narayana Murthy announced a bonanza of $28.6 million for its 58,000 employees to celebrate the silver jubilee anniversary. The amount would be disbursed to the employees based on their tenure of service in the company, said Murthy to the 7000 strong gathering in his hometown, Mysore. Attributing Infosys’ success to the 1991 government led by P.V. Narasimha Rao as Prime Minister and Manmohan Singh as the Finance Minister, Murthy said that the economic reforms ushered in during their leadership had enhanced Infy’s experiments with democratizing wealth and achieving great success. "Infosys is a shining example of the success of the economic reforms that were pioneered by the trio (Manmohan Singh, P Chidambaram and Montek Singh Ahluwalia) under the then Prime Minister Rao during the early nineties. As the architects of the economic reforms, they have enabled enterprises like Infosys to flourish by harnessing the potential of its employees and exploiting the business opportunities worldwide," Murthy said. He appreciated the commitment of its founder-promoters and employees for their excellence, high quality, fairness, transparency and integrity. He attributed Infy’s successful rise to become the image of the Indian community and emerge as a benchmark for others to emulate. Speaking at the celebrations, Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram said, “We missed the industrial revolution, because, we were a colony. We started late but we have caught up with the best in software industry.” The inaugural occasion of the $2.1 billion company will witness a global analysts’ meet for about 2600 financial experts in its extensive 270-acre campus. Karnataka Chief Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy was also present at the occasion among dignitaries like Chidambaram and Ahluwalia.
