Infosys to recruit from China campuses

BANGALORE: India’s major information technology giant, Infosys Technologies Ltd, plans to start recruiting from Chinese campuses from February 2006. At present the company has some 330 employees in China who have been hired laterally from other companies. Infosys board member, Srinath Batni said, “We plan to visit about seven to eight Universities and engineering college campuses in China from February. The exact number of Chinese graduates that Infosys expects to hire would be known once we assess them.” The company recently trained some 100 undergraduates from various Chinese Universities at its Global Education Center in Mysore as part of the (MoU) signed between Infosys and the Chinese Government. Infosys plans to invest $65 million in expanding its Chinese operations over the next five years. Besides, after setting up two new facilities in Hangzhou and Shanghai, Infosys plans to ramp up its headcount to 6,000 in China. Meanwhile, Infosys announced that it would increase the headcount of its development center in Bhubaneshwar to over 4,500 from 1,720 at present. The company also plans to invest $22.72 million over the next few years. He said, “Infosys has taken a lead in this direction by investing more than $30.68 million in Bhubaneswar. We contribute approximately 80 percent of software exports from the State, making Infosys the largest exporter from the Bhubaneswar STPI.”
