Infosys bags economic performance award

BANGALORE: IT consulting and services major Infosys Technologies Ltd. has a top corporate achievement award for its outstanding performance in the volatile economic conditions of the Asia Pacific region. Infosys, which received the Economist Intelligence Unit's "Global Corporate Achievement Awards 2002" in Asia Pacific, was judged the winner on the basis of performance, strategy, leadership, and innovation. Toyota, the Japanese carmaker, won second place in the Asia Pacific region. The Economist Intelligence Unit is the business information arm of the publishing company, The Economist Group. Infosys won top honors in a competitive group of 10 finalists, all with excellent records of sustained profitability, innovation and leadership. Narayana Murthy, chairman and chief mentor of Infosys Technologies received the award at a gala ceremony held in Hong Kong on Wednesday. "It is a great honour for Infosys to win this prestigious award. We are delighted to be chosen by an august panel of experts to be amongst some of the world's best corporations," said Murthy. A panel comprising leading business think tanks and corporate leaders selected the winners. "Infosys has done nothing less than put India on the international business map," said Daniel Franklin, editorial director of Economist Intelligence Unit. "Their embrace of international corporate standards, quality control process, transparent corporate governance, and intensive training and retention program has raised the bar of all Indian companies."
