Bangalore: While the IT biggies are putting constraints on their IT spending, Indian IT giant Infosys has plans of strengthening its R&D facilities to win bigger transformation deals. "With its R&D capabilities, Infosys is able to mine large customers, such as British Telecom (BT), better than other Indian rivals," said the expert, who is an independent consultant helping tech spenders in the U.S. to plan their outsourcing strategy. The Indian software exporter had earlier bagged an outsourcing contract of BT, which has become one of the top three customers for the company, generating around over $120 million of revenues. Infact, even the company believes that the output from its Software Engineering and Technology Labs enables them to win large transformational deals. "We are able to shift the paradigm from a typical vendor-customer relationship to partners in innovation," says Subu Goparaju, Vice-President and Head of Infosys' SET Labs, as reported by Economic Times. Hence the company invested about 1.3 percent of its revenues in the R&D facilities with over 100 pending patent applications in U.S. and India. Moreover, the company is also expects more deals to come its way through its customer-focused research. "Over the past two years, we have also conducted about 55 innovation work-outs with several customers," Goparaju said.
