Infosys BPO to strengthen Rajasthan presence

Jaipur: Infosys BPO will expand it operations in Rajasthan by raising seating capacity at its units to over 4,000 from the current 400, said a top company official here Tuesday. Amitabh Chaudhry, CEO and managing director, Infosys BPO, while addressing a press conference, said, "We would like to further strengthen our presence in Rajasthan." The company is developing a new state-of-the-art campus at the Jaipur special economic zone (SEZ). "This facility should be ready by August 2008. Once it is completed, we would have over 4,000 seats in Jaipur alone," Chaudhary said. It presently has an office here, which completes one year of operations on Dec 16. The centre employs more than 400 people and boasts of several prestigious global clients. Infosys BPO's Project Genesis programme, which began two years ago in the state, has trained 228 university lecturers. Project Genesis aims to strengthen industry-academia relationships and create a strong foundation for the emerging knowledge economy of the country. The company is also setting up a knowledge centre at Meera College in Udaipur. It has short-listed about 500 students from the Government College in Alwar for special training programmes. Infosys BPO Ltd, the business process outsourcing subsidiary of Infosys Technologies, was set up in April 2002. Infosys BPO focuses on integrated outsourcing and delivers benefits to clients through reduced costs, productivity improvements, and process re-engineering. The firm operates in India, the Czech Republic, China, the Philippines, Poland, Thailand and Mexico. It employs about 13,000 people. The company closed financial year 2006-07 with revenues of approximately $148 million.
