InfoSpace Awarded Patent for merchant shopping technology

BELLEVUE,: InfoSpace Inc. (Nasdaq:INSP), a provider of wireless and Internet software and application services, Friday announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded the Company a new patent protecting a key technology differentiator of InfoSpace's private-labeled comparison-shopping service IntelliShopper(TM). U.S. Patent Number 6,490,601 (apparatus, methods and computer program products disclosed for constructing and transmitting an executable software module on a personal information server to a remote computer) protects InfoSpace's shopping technology, which enables the automatic insertion or "order injection" of data into electronic forms. "The addition of this patent further strengthens InfoSpace's intellectual property portfolio, especially in regard to the Merchant Business Unit and its shopping service," said Prakash Kondepudi, InfoSpace executive vice president, merchant. "`Order injection' is a key InfoSpace differentiator, as it seamlessly integrates merchants into our shopping service and could do the same for other shopping providers. I'm very pleased with this patent award and congratulations goes out to our engineering team." InfoSpace has 45 patents pending and is committed to maintaining, expanding and maximizing the value of its growing portfolio of intellectual property.
