New Delhi: Industry chamber Assocham today said that 2011 may witness continuation of high inflationary pressures, a view contrary to the government that expects inflation to slow down to around 6 per cent by March next year. In a paper titled, 'Realising the Objective of Stabilised Inflation', Assocham said, "2011 may continue giving pain to the government on the issue of food inflation and put pressure on the manufacturing sector due to hyper-inflation." Wholesale price inflation in the country fell to 7.48 percent in November, prompting the government to say that it will go down to around 6 per cent by March 2011. However, the skyrocketing prices of onion, garlic and tomato have dampened the government and RBI's estimates. Food inflation for the week ended December 24 surged back to double-digit level at 12.13 per cent, after the three weeks' slide towards single-digit level.
