Bangalore: A chip known as Infineon is the cause of recent complaints on the Apple 3G iPhone. Mobile cell phone users are facing unpredictable disconnects with calls and Internet connections with the iPhone. According to a research report from Nomura, the root of all problems of Apple's new iPhone is the 3G cellular network communications chip made by Germany's Infineon. "We believe that these issues are typical of an immature chipset and radio protocol stack where we are almost certain that Infineon is the 3G supplier," Nomura analyst Richard Windsor wrote in a research note. iPhone has been suffering from faulty software since its launch. Initially representatives for Apple and Infineon declined the fact. The latest iPhone, which went on sale in July and sold one million in its first weekend, is faster, third-generation (3G) Web connections as compared to the first iPhone that was launched in mid-2007. Users have raised complaints on websites and blogs that Internet speeds have been inconsistent and that the phone often reverts to a slower technology known as Edge even in 3G areas. However, Apple plans to release several updates for the iPhone to resolve the issues related to the phone.
