NEW DELHI: India's telecom market watchdog Thursday said it might make all kinds of telephone service charges cheaper as part of it revised guidelines for tariffs to be unveiled soon. "The authority has yesterday finalised the principles for the revised IUC (interconnect user charge) regime," said a press statement issued here by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). "Under the revised IUC regime to be announced in the near future, the amount of access deficit calculated is much lower than that estimated earlier," said the regulator. "The revised access deficit charge regime will impose a lower overall burden, and will thus allow competition in the market to sustain and even to leave scope to reduce the prevailing tariff levels in all services." TRAI said the final scheme is likely to be notified in the third week of the current month.
