India's exports up 15.7 percent in April-July

India's exports in April-July 2002-03 totalled $15.86 billion, 15.7 percent higher than the $13.78 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2001-02.

NEW DELHI: In rupee terms, India's exports were worth 775.97 billion in April-July 2002-03, 19.94 percent higher than in April-July 2001-02, an official statement said Sunday. Exports in July were valued at $4.04 billion, 17.74 percent higher than the figure of $3.43 billion in July last year. India's imports during April-July 2002-03 totalled $17.75 billion, an increase of 0.22 percent over the $17.71 billion during the same period in July 2001-02. Oil imports during April-July 2002-03 totalled $5.38 billion, 1.12 percent higher than $5.32 billion in the corresponding period last year. Non-oil imports during April-July 2002-03 came to $12.36 billion, decreasing 0.17 percent from the April-July 2001-02 figure of $12.38 billion. Imports during July 2002 totalled $4.64 billion, a decline of 5.65 percent over imports worth $4.92 billion in July 2001. The trade deficit for April-July 2002-03 has been estimated at $1.88 billion against the April-July 2001-02 figure of $3.93 billion.
