India's economic growth up 8.2 percent in 2003-04

NEW DELHI: India emerged as one of the fastest growing economies in 2003-04 with its gross domestic product (GDP) rising by 8.2 percent, compared with four percent in the previous fiscal, official statistics showed Wednesday. The growth was led primarily by the agriculture sector, which expanded by an impressive 9.1 percent, and the manufacturing sector that was up 7.3 percent, the Central Statistical Organisation said. India's national income for the year under review was 12.52 trillion ($278.3 billion) at 1993-94 prices, compared with 11.57 trillion ($257.04 billion) in 2002-03.
