Indians Donate Millions to U.S. Universities, Forget India
Bangalore: Top Indian industrialists are funding alumni base of Harvard University, reveals a recent survey by the U.S. News Short List. Meanwhile, the Indian universities are suffering from lack of contemporary IT infrastructure, absence of best practices and low student gross enrollment ratios (GER). Yet, the top industrialists choose to invest westward instead of directing their funds towards Indian universities.
As per the news survey conducted annually among 1,800 schools and reports of two-year alumni, Princeton University was rated on the top, making it the most loved university for donations. It is also to be noted that unlike Indian universities, which are largely funded by tuition fees, western universities are mostly funded by donation. For example, only about 20 percent of Harvard expenditures are met by tuition fee collections while nearly 50 percent comes from donation. A significant amount of the donation comes from its alumni base.
A number of studies that are conducted to study alumni donation patterns reveal some relevant questions being asked like the age of the donor, what affiliation the donor has and what is the motivation of the giver. A few studies seem to suggest that some alumni donate with the hope that their children would get an easy passage into the same Ivy League institutions. Even when Anand Mahindra joined the ranks by giving the highest donation to any humanities discipline at Harvard, questions were raised whether the donation was timed with his two sons seeking college admissions.

And did somebody check how much each university get donation every year & how they use it. I am sure they got huge money from govt, did they use it?
And how about putting money in research? Still our syllabus is 5-7 year old. Still we studying for exam & studying for knowledge is different, why this?
Its good indian businessmen smart enough not to waste their money.
Donating to Indian Varsities means provoking the Varsities authority to do SCAM. They are not going to do anything new. Always they will be busy in picking money into their pockets. See for example, the condition of roads in India. Are people not giving the road taxes? See the conditions of Govt. Hospital in India. Are people not giving their Income taxes? Though they paid their taxes, political leaders are enjoying their luxurious life by deceiving common people.
I really appreciate who donated money to foreign varsities.
Because they do not faith in Indian varsities.
and self centered.India lack patrotic people. There is wide gap between those who have and those who do not have.It is very unfortunate that those who are sensible and want to do something for upliftment of downtrodden in society, they do not
have proper means to support the needy.Prosperity does not make sensible people.Attitude of Indian has drastically changed after Independence of India.
mentality of the folks in any office ( be it a college, NGO or any ) receiving funds should change from 'what's in it for me ' to 'wow this is going to help a 100 students'
