Mumbai: Its not chocolates or cartoons that enthrall the kids anymore. The world of digital technology seems to have mesmerized the young generation, reveals the survey conducted by MTV, Nickelodeon and Microsoft. The survey conducted across 18,000 kids in 16 countries reveal that Indian kids are more tech savvy than their counterparts in Asia. "Young people in India are among the fastest in Asia today to embrace digital technology to express themselves and connect with other communities," says Rajnish, Head of Digital Marketing Revenue and strategic Business, Windows Live and MSN India. "While growth of mobile and digital technology in India is driven by the urban youth, we will gradually see this involve the rural youth. Moreover the Indian youth see mobile phones as a status symbol." Ian Stewart, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, VBS International, MTV Networks Asia explained that the way youth in different markets embraced technology depended on the stage of development as well as social and cultural factors. For example an average Chinese youngster has 37 online friends he or she has never met before, where as one in three American and British teenagers says he would not be able to live without his game console. The involvement of young people with technology however doesn?t make them geeks. Fifty nine percent of the kids aged 8 and 14 years said they still preferred their TV to their PC?s and only twenty percent of those between fourteen and twenty four years said they were interested in technology.
