Indian talent to make Silicon Valley's business powerful
Santa Clara: Global technology and innovation hub Silicon Valley needs "Indian talent and entrepreneurial energy" to build powerful businesses, according to a economic and policy think tank in the U.S.

In a report titled "Global Reach: Emerging Ties Between the Bay Area and India", the Bay Area Council Economic Institute said Silicon Valley success stories have always had an Indian edge and the cooperation with Indian talent will continue "to unleash powerful businesses".

The institute is a public-private partnership of business, labour, government and higher education that works to support the economic vitality and competitiveness of California and the Bay Area. According to the 300-page report, the research institutions and technology companies in Silicon Valley and its risk-taking culture will work better when juxtaposed with Indian talent and entrepreneurial energy.

However, the council warned that the present visa and immigration policies of the U.S. restricted access to global talent. "U.S. visa and immigration policy unnecessarily restricts access to global talent, fails to compete aggressively for top foreign students and researchers, and discourages them from staying to contribute to the economy," said the report.

This leads students and recent immigrants to return home, especially at a juncture when India is no more a destination for lower-end-work as against the innovation streams in the Valley, it added.

The council also said the Bay Area was now working on plans to create stronger ties between Silicon Valley and cities like Bangalore. The India report is the second in a series that explores the Bay Area's ties with emerging economic giants. The first one related to the region's strong links with China.

2: Well said Das & Da Silva. The social culture and values have a lot to contribute to the Indian mindset. The only difference b/w working in India and abroad is that the average Indian (from yesterday) felt - what is the point? - there is lot of corruption. When you come to US/abroad, all you hear is you can be anything you want to be. That frees the shackles of the mind and allows it to soars to the heights we have seen amongst Indians. Indians generally believe in the Karma theory - which intrinsically keeps them honest and hardworking abroad. Speaking of the current Indian generation - they believe that they can achieve anything they set their minds to - so expect wonders from them as well.
Anybody wants talent from our half brother? Reading the story of army generals/officers and their families being blown up by grenades, I could not help wonder if they played a role in sending terrorists to India. Dubai was the gateway for gold from Congo. That gold is loaded with blood and tears of Congolese. Look at Dubai imploding now.
Karma is a beautiful thing - the universal truth - average Indian understands that. They understand the value of a good education. As my father often said - puut sapuut ko kya dhan sanchay.
Anyway enough of my rant. Do what u do best my fellow Indians and do not forget your values. rest all wil fall in place.

6: Indians are more succesfull outside india rather at india. we indians know how we can do better work for others. If indians get together then they more think of politics engage in regional lobbies ....
As wintston Churchill rightly said "Indians should be ruled" so we better work under the reigns of others....

I can say during this economic downturn though "USA may be failing to compete aggressively for top foreign students and researchers" and IT's, engineers, biologists, doctors and nurses as well (there are other fields of endeavor too) and that things will change for the better in time.

I agree with you and would add . We have a large number of successful Indians not only because of the large population , but because of the emphasis on education as the ticket to getting ahead.
