Indian staff of Saudi hospital not paid 7 months' salaries

Dubai: Three Indian doctors and nine nurses working in a reputed hospital in Saudi Arabia have not received salaries for the past seven months. The 12 people, working at the Dr. Siddiqa Hospital, have now lodged a complaint with the Indian consulate there, a consulate official told the Arab News newspaper on condition of anonymity. Stating that India's Consul General in Jeddah Ausaf Sayeed was following the case with keen interest, the official said, "We hope that a settlement could be reached by the end of this week." According to the report, they all were working in reputed hospitals in India before joining the Jeddah facility in November 2006. Established in 1983, the Dr. Siddiqa Hospital is one of the top hospitals in Jeddah with multi-speciality facilities. The consulate official, however, warned that if the hospital further delayed the salaries, the consulate would advise the 12 workers to approach the labour court to obtain their rights, including release, to work for other institutions. "We'll provide them with necessary legal assistance," he said According to the report, the nurses, all of whom are from Kerala, are especially under stress as they had tendered their resignations two-and-a-half months back and were yet to receive their salaries and exit visas.
