Singapore: Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in India are expected to lead the Asia-Pacific region next year in terms of tech spending growth followed by China, says a study. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), IT spending by SMEs in the Asia-Pacific region is forecast to hit $52 billion in 2007. The 10-percent rise from this year is driven largely by companies in China and India. SMEs in India are expected to lead the region in terms of tech spending growth rates next year at 16.9 percent, followed by China at 11.9 percent. China however will be the largest technology market, IDC said, with SMEs making up more than 38 percent of total IT spending in the region, excluding Japan. "Technology providers or vendors are paying increasing attention to the small, medium, and medium-large-sized business market because of its size and rate of growth," The Business Times quoted Walter Lee, an IDC vice-president, as saying. Vendors will have to tailor their approach to tap into this potential, he noted. "The key to reach the segment effectively is to define an efficient channel strategy by partnering with industry-specific solution partners who possess deep domain expertise and have access and proximity to local industry clusters," he told the newspaper.
